A 6-year old girl Katelyn Lunt, in Pleasantville, Utah, surprised her parents by giving them a bill of over $350 after going on a toy shopping spree online. The expensive toys included merchandise related to Barbie dolls. Given how it’s easy for children to gain access to smartphones, stories such as Katelyn’s are very commonplace.
Katelyn Lunt would be entering her first grade of schooling and has already shown a penchant for conspicuous consumption. Her mom, Catherine Lunt told media outlets that when she ordered a Barbie doll from Amazon, her daughter became a little curious about the entire ‘online shopping’ process.
Once her mom left the room, Katelyn snuck in and grabbed the phone to ‘study’ when the doll was going to arrive. The snarky girl quickly realized that the world was her oyster with the Internet-enabled smartphone and began to binge order as many supplies as she could.
When her petrified mother found out, Katelyn responded by claiming this was her ‘Barbie collection’ – one that would offset her parents by about $350! The good thing is that her mother was able to perform some damage control by cancelling a few packages, but many of them had already been shipped.
The very next morning, when the family went for a walk, they were surprised by a truck promptly arriving with all the merchandise. When the collection of packages showed up, Katelyn had a cute little grin on her face. She stood guard by the truck like a warlord about to collect her spoils of war.
Her mother realized that despite all the damage done, the entire incident had put a smile on Katelyn’s face. She promptly whipped out her phone and captured a few selfies with her daughter. Little did she know that it would capture the hearts of people worldwide and earn her major ‘Internet points.’ The story has become extremely viral and continues to make headlines on major news outlets.

What the Parents did With All the Excess Merchandise Will Amaze You
As if the internet wasn’t already impressed enough, the Lunt family decided to send some of the packages to Primary Children’s Hospital. To pay tribute to the hospital’s services and to help the children who aren’t well, Katelyn eventually decided to drop off all her new toys to the hospital. Now that is selflessness on an unparalleled scale!
Speaking about her daughter’s recent adventure on Amazon.com, Catherine said, “Katelyn enabled us to deliver these toys to the hospital, so I think we used it more as a teaching experience rather than punishing her for it.”
This isn’t the first report of little children going berserk with their parent’s phones and ordering stuff online. Rapper and musician, Kanye West, took to Twitter to complain that his daughter, North, is spending all ‘his money’ on in-app tablet purchases. The irony of his story is that wife, Kim Kardashian, made more than $200 million due to in-app purchases with the mobile game Kim Kardashian: Hollywood.
