Rovio Entertainment and Imagine Dragons have teamed up to fight pediatric cancer. Players will notice the new dashboard in Angry Birds Mash that will take them to The Tyler Robinson Foundation page where they can donate money.
The foundation is named after Tyler Robinson, a young fan of Imagine Dragons who died aged 17 from a rare form of cancer called Rhabdomyosarcoma. The Grammy Award-winning group said in a statement that the ‘Tyler Robinson Foundation’ is ‘very close to their hearts’.
“These kids should not have to suffer financial despair when they are already battling cancer. It’s an honor to help them out in any way we can. We decided to partner up with Angry Birds to bring more awareness and support to our foundation and these kids.”
Angry Birds Match does not have an option for in-app fundraising, but users who participate will see a prompt that will take them to the TRF campaign page for donations. “We want to raise as much awareness and finances as possible so families that have a child with cancer can get treatment,” said Dan Reynolds.
Angry Birds Match is just one of the many spin-offs from the Angry Birds series. It has become so popular that it resulted in a commercially successful flick, “The Angry Birds Movie”, which has accumulated a praiseworthy rating of 6.3 on IMDB. It has also made more than $350 million at the box office.
The in-game event will feature Hatchlings who will be transported to a new location, Las Vegas Concert Arena, where they will take on increasingly difficult challenges in anticipation of ‘the biggest concert ever’. Three new characters and outfits will be introduced and Imagine Dragons will make a cameo with their song “Natural”.
The event can be played on Angry Birds Match on iOS and Android platforms.
Speaking about the partnership, Ville Heijari, CMO of Rovio Entertainment commented, “It’s an honor to partner up with Imagine Dragons to support TRF in its endeavor to help children and families battling life-threatening diseases.”
