The Goonies is a much-loved coming of age movie from the 1980’s that had a great cast

Where are they now Thirty Three Years Later?

Sean AstinSean Astin

Sean Astin played Mikey in The Goonies. With an acting career spanning 35 years, Astin has stared in many productions including Lord of the Rings trilogy where he played Samwise “Sam” Gamgee. Astin also is a voice actor and has voiced Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles ‘Raphael’ in a few TMNT cartoon series as well as video games. His most recent hit was playing Bob Newton in Netflix’s Stranger Things.

Josh Brolin

Josh Brolin played Brandon, the older brother of Mikey. Josh stared in a few TV shows after The Goonies including Private Eye, The Young Riders, and Mister Sterling. Josh recently joined the Marvel Superhero franchise playing the supervillain Thanos in The Avengers and as Cable in  Deadpool 2.

 

 

 

Jeff CohenJeff Cohen

Jeff Cohen played Chunk. Cohen retired from acting a few years after he stared in The Goonies. Jeff went on to have his own law business working in entertainment law.

Jeff had contracted chicken pox before The Goonies had started filming and he didn’t tell anyone, but in the infamous truffle shuffle scene, the chicken pox can be seen.

Corey Feldman played Clark ‘Mouth’ Devereaux. Corey has had a huge number of television and film roles since his career started back in 1979, Including The Lost Boys, Maverick, Donatello’s voice in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movies. He also reprises his Lost Boys role of Edgar Frog in the cult classics squeals The Lost Boys- The Tribe and The Lost Boys – The Thirst.

 

 

Kerri Green

Kerri Green played Andrea Carmichael, who was the love interest of Brand Walsh. She stared in Lucas with  Corey Haim and Charlie Sheen.  In the late 1990’s she co-founded ‘Independent Women Artists’ a film production company with Bonnie Dickenson.

Johnathan Ke Quan stared as Data in The Goonies, before he landed the role as Data he starred alongside Harrison Ford in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom. Since then he has only had a handful of acting roles, and he now works as a stunt choreographer, he choreographed some stunt scenes in X-Men.

John Matuszak

John Matuszak played the films most lovable character ‘Sloth’. Matuszak died at only 38 years old, in June 1989. His credits in the entertainment world include small roles in M*A*S*H, The Dukes of Hazzard, The A-Team, Miami Vice, and Superboy.

 

 

 

 

Locations

The Goonies was filmed in Astoria, OR, US. You can still visit many of the locations used for the film.

Haystack Rock, The infamous rock the Goonies use to navigate the treasure map, its one of the largest sea stacks in the world so it’s pretty hard to miss.

 

You can visit the jail where Ma and Francis Fratelli break Jake out of jail, its now a film museum dedicated to all the films made in Oregon, including Free Willy, Animal House and of course The Goonies. Other locations you can visit are the Lower bowling center where Chunk squashes his milkshake and pizza against the window, Flavel House Museum is where Mikey’s dad worked and is now on the National Register of Historic Places.

 

The Goonies plot. (for those who haven’t seen this classic)

The Goonies a Steven Spielberg film, first hit the big screen back in 1985, the story revolved around two brothers Mikey Walsh and Brandon Walsh, whose family were in preparation to move after a huge company had plans to build a country club/golf course where their neighborhood is. The brothers discover a treasure map belonging to ‘One-Eyed Willy’ The infamous pirate. The brothers enlist help from their friends  Lawrence Cohen aka Chunk, Clark Devereaux aka Mouth, Andrea Carmichael aka Andy, Stefanie Steinbrenner aka Stef, and Richard Wang aka Data, the youngsters, called their gang The Goonies.

The Goonies embark on an adventure to discover the lost treasures in hopes to save the neighborhood, but in to do so, they need to gain access to a cavern which its entrance is under the evil Mama Fratelli’s and her sons Jake Fratelli, Francis Fratelli and Lotney Fratelli aka Sloth’s restaurant. Sloth befriends they young gang and helps them with the hunt for the treasure.
